Collins Branch

The Collins Branch is Cambridge's coziest branch library. Located in West Cambridge on Aberdeen Avenue, a tree-lined street that spans the distance between Fresh Pond and the Mount Auburn Cemetery, the building that houses Collins began life as the offices of the Gale Lumber Company. An abundance of warm red oak trims the windows, doors, walls, and fourteen-foot ceilings. Two quaint red brick fireplaces also boast oak mantels, but these, and the library's many nooks and crannies, are now filled with an eclectic, popular collection of books, magazines, and audio-visual materials for readers of all ages.

Avid readers stop by to find a great new novel, just the right chapter book, or simply to glance at a magazine or the day's newspapers. The resources of dozens of area libraries are available electronically through the online catalog. Twice weekly, our children's librarian leads a singalong and storytime for toddlers and preschoolers, a great place for kids and adults to meet old friends and make new ones. One night a month, adults meet to discuss the best in new fiction, memoirs, and biographies. Recent special programs have included a dance workshop for kids, a book discussion focussing on travel, and a program for seniors on how to use the computer catalog (view current month's programs). From an exciting summer reading club to a quiet reading corner, the diminutive Collins Branch has large riches to offer. Next time you're on your way to Fresh Pond or the market, why not stop by and discover us for yourself?
